Our values

Experience in training future lawyers

The first courses were taught in 1886-87. The Faculty of Law has gained a solid reputation for the high quality of its studies, academic staff and student body.

Our Faculty provides students with an all-embracing education, professional and personal development and high quality teaching, both at an undergraduate and postgraduate level. Many generations of professionals coming from its classrooms are good proof of it.

Our aim is to train qualified professionals, capable of working towards change and improvement in society, trying to build a fairer and more humane political, economic, social context. Hence our effort to encourage students to become free, responsible and critical individuals, with an attitude of service and solidarity, respectful to others, educated for peace and committed to people’s dignity and to human rights.

The best undergraduate and postgraduate education

The curricula of all our degree programmes are based on a professional academic profile, that is, on the definition of what a professional who has studied at Deusto should be like.

This description is agreed between the social actors in the field of law, business and labour relations: lawyers, judges, notaries, politicians, social workers, representatives from the business world in general, among others.

And this description of what these professional should be like results in a set of knowledge, abilities and skills (competences) that must be acquired or developed throughout the duration of their studies.

A faculty open to the world

Internationalisation is one of the strategic aims of the University of Deusto. This strong international dimension in university education first helps to enhance its quality and secondly, to train students to adapt to an interdependent global job market.

In order to go beyond the model based on student exchange, the Faculty of Law has strengthened internationalisation through the mobility of our teaching staff to other universities worldwide, the participation of visiting lecturers from renowned universities and the Faculty's membership to important international networks.
