The Jean Monnet Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies on European Integration at the University of Deusto is made up of a team of lecturers with proven academic experience on issues relating to EU research and its relevance.



 Beatriz Nueva carnet Beatriz Pérez de las Heras
  • Beatriz Pérez de las Heras, is Professor of European Union Law since 1999. PhD in Law (University of Deusto, UD), she accomplished postgraduate studies at the UD Institute of European Studies (IES) and the Centre Européen Universitaire de Nancy (France), where she completed the DESS and DEA en Droit Communautaire. She was Director of the IES from 1996-2009
  • She is currently Principal Researcher of the European Integration Research Team and Holder of the Jean Monnet Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies on European Integration.
  • As of 2009, she is Director of Cuadernos Europeos de Deusto Journal. She is Academic Coordinator of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on European Union Law and International Relations since September of 2013.
  • At the Faculty of Law, she serves as Vice-Dean of International Relations and Research as of October 2013. Her current research issues are the EU climate change and energy policies.

 Joana Abrisketa cv  
Joana Abrisketa Uriarte
  • PhD in International Public Law, Lecturer of International Public Law, International Organisations and European Union Law at the School of Law of the University of Deusto since 2002.
  • She has been a teacher and coordinator in the European Master's in International Humanitarian Action (Erasmus Mundus) since 1999, at the Pedro Arrupe Human Rights Institute. She is the author of the book Acción Humanitaria y Derechos Humanos, Alberdania, 2004, and has also written several articles and chapters in journals and books.
  •  She has taught courses and seminars at the Universities of El Externado in Bogotá, Lovaine-la-Neuve, Belgium, and University of Leeds, United Kingdom, among others. She has taught as a visiting lecturer at the Universities of Columbia in New York and University of York in Toronto, Canada, in addition to others. 
  • She is a member of the Research Team of the Seventh Framework Programme of the European Unions “Fostering Human Rights Among European Policies”, as well as the Basque Government Project on “Sociocultural challenges and human rights in a Changing World” (Category A) and the Consolider Team, "HURI-AGE. The Time for Rights".

Laura Gómez Urquijo

  • Laura Gómez Urquijo holds a PhD in Law from the University of Deusto, and postgraduate education from the Institute of European Studies at Turin. 
  • She is currently Associate Professor in Economics of the European Union. She is researcher of the “European Integration” research team.
  • Her research projects mainly focus on EU economic policies. Laura Gómez Urquijo has been a visiting scholar in several foreign universities, including Uppsala, Buenos Aires, Sorocaba (Brasil), Sarajevo and Derby. 

   Cristina Churruca Muguruza
  • Lecturer in International Relations and Humanitarian Action and Peace-Building at the Human Rights Institute of the University of Deusto; Lecturer in Public International Law; Her main research areas include human security, peacebuilding, European foreign policy and EU humanitarian action.
  • She has published a number of articles in these fields and has taken part in different research projects financed by national and international institutions. She is currently working on a human security project and lasting solutions to internal displacement as a key element to peacebuilding.
  • Director of NOHA Joint European Master’s in International Humanitarian Action at the University of Deusto and coordinator of the NOHA Consortium of Universities in International Humanitarian Action, comprising seven European universities and eight universities worldwide that offer the NOHA Mundus Master’s programme.
  • After having worked as a researcher at the University of the Basque Country, she obtained a postdoctoral Marie Curie Grant from the European Union to work at the International Institute for Law of Peace and Armed Conflict in Bochum (Ruhr-Universität Bochum), Germany. She has been a visiting researcher at the University of Monash, the Pontifical Xavierian University in Bogotá, Columbia University and the University of Bangalore.
