- International meeting on Institutional enlargement and renewal: towards a greater democratic legitimacy and political integration in the European Union?
The first public event scheduled by the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence in EU Law and International Relations at the University of Deusto was held on 24 and 25 March.
The meeting featured talks by several experts and was entitled: Institutional enlargement and renewal: towards a greater democratic legitimacy and political integration in the European Union? Six experts from different parts of the world gave their views on the main institutional political changes and challenges that the EU is facing in 2014.

This meeting focused on The European External Action Service and the new European diplomacy: challenges and opportunities for the European Union’s external action.

In September, the University of Deusto hosted the following events:
Conference on European Union Research, which addressed European Union policy on climate change: global challenges, international commitments and common standards.
The aim of this conference was to disseminate the main findings of the research project: The European Union greenhouse gas emissions trading scheme: Abilities and prospects of a climate governance instrument. This research study was coordinated by Professor Beatriz Pérez de las Heras and was carried out by ten researchers from Europe and North America.
