Learning Model


LLM Program Deusto University offers a teaching model which combines compulsory courses with optional activities and training opportunities to drive forward student's international curriculum. Our LLM are organized in two academic semesters as follows:

Fall Semester

Four courses in Deusto University - Campus Bilbao:

  • Period of time: 14 weeks from September to December.
  • Teaching combines classes with small group seminars in every course.
  • In addition to the classes, Law School organizes activities such as visits to legal institutions, bar association and courthouses, specif ically designed for students of these LLM Program.


Winter Semester

Four courses in Deusto University - Bilbao Campus and One course online:

  • Period of time: 8 weeks 15th January- 15th March (dates may change every year depending on the University’s official calendar).
  • These courses have a very specialized focus, either on Transnational Law & Trade or Public International Law.



In addition to these courses every LLM Program has a compulsory course: a Dissertation about a topic of the student’s choice (10,000 words) related to either Transnational Law & Trade / International Public Law:

  • Dissertation will be supervised by a Deusto Law School faculty member, expert on the focus.
  • Students receive methodological support: Tutorial sessions are planned to help
    students to improve their legal research skills adapted to different LLM focus.
  • Dissertation will be defended at the end of the course before an academic court in Deusto or via on line.
